Networking administration / engineering typically starts with Cisco CCNA:

Security technology training and certification from SANS (expensive, work paid for them), GSEC is a good start

security analysis and hacking certification (some respect, still new): CEH is valuable

security professional / managers commonly have CISSP (expensive, requires experience and recommendation)
